Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Car Port (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application (the “App”). By using the App, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Data ownership & local storage
Car Port is built as a local-first app. Vehicle nicknames, service logs, maintenance records, and other information you add are stored on your device, not on our servers. We do not operate a central database of your garage or service history tied to you.
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not use passwords or similar credentials in the App. There is nothing to “log in” to on our side for day-to-day use of your data.
2. Vehicle data (UK DVSA)
When you enter a UK vehicle registration, the App may fetch public record data from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) API (and related official sources made available through that service) to show information such as MOT status where applicable.
We do not store that DVSA-derived data on our servers as a central copy of your vehicles. For your convenience, the App may cache such responses locally on your device so it can be shown offline or without repeating the same request. That cache is tied to your device, not to a cloud account we operate for your garage data.
3. Subscriptions & payments (RevenueCat)
Car Port may offer optional Pro features via in-app subscription. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, entitlements, and related product configuration.
We do not see or store your credit or debit card numbers. Payment information is collected and processed by Apple and/or Google through their in-app purchase systems, according to their terms and privacy policies. RevenueCat and the platform stores handle the transaction; we receive what we need to unlock Pro features in the App, including an anonymous Subscriber ID (or equivalent identifier) from RevenueCat so we can confirm your subscription status without handling your card details.
4. Data retention
Because your vehicle and service data is stored locally, it remains on your device until you remove it (for example by deleting a vehicle or clearing app data) or until you uninstall the App, subject to how your operating system manages app data on removal.
Information we receive only in connection with subscriptions (such as the anonymous Subscriber ID described above) is retained only as long as needed to provide and verify Pro access, in line with RevenueCat and platform practices.
5. Third parties
For the purposes described in this policy, we rely on the following categories of third party:
- DVSA — for vehicle-related public record data accessed via the DVSA API when you look up a registration.
- RevenueCat — for subscription management, entitlements, and the Subscriber ID used to unlock Pro features.
- Apple and Google — for app distribution through their app stores and for processing in-app purchase payments as described above.
We do not sell your personal information. Aside from what is necessary to operate the App (including the parties listed above), we do not share your data with unrelated advertising or analytics networks as part of this architecture.
6. Contact
For privacy-related questions, contact us at [Insert Your Support Email].
If you email us for support, we will only have the email address (and any information you choose to include in your message) for users who voluntarily contact us. We use that information solely to respond to your enquiry.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the App or on our website and adjust the “Last updated” date above. Where changes are material, we will provide additional notice if required by law.
